Creating bumpmaps

makes your texture look realistic
modeling is not to far from texturing
What is a bumpmap?
A bumpmap is an invisible image that controls how your texture looks when light hits it. (ie adding depth)
Requirements
Texture to bumpmap (with vmt)
General idea to what you want the texture to look like

Starting off
download the crazybump installer trial from the website
CrazyBump
Somewhat crazybump demos arnt limited, (throw the installer on your desktop and your set for life)
plus the demo dosnt limit anything (fail),
Everything else about loading a texture should be to the point.
Once you get to the main screen of the program with your texture, tweak around with the settings
then save normals (nothername for bumpmaps)

The vmt
Simple here too.
just add

$bumpmap texture/texture_bump
should look like so...

LightmappedGeneric
{
$basetexture models/tf2partybus
$surfaceprop brick
$bumpmap         models/tf2partybus_nrm
}

Your done!
note that you can fuck up textures badly with bumpmaps if you do arnt careful
the crazybump 3d preview is off of the source engine graphics, its decieving

todo: add pictures,

I use the nVidia bumpmap plugin for Photoshop :p

The middle on texture maker looks best. The crazy bump one looks abit too blurry.

It Most Certainly Does.
It struggles at Solitaire and cant run even CSS :(
